Celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day!
On the third Thursday of May we celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day because accessibility is for everyone! Accessibility is defined in the dictionary as “the quality of being easily reached, entered, or used by people who have a disability.”

What effect does this have on your daily life?
Digital Accessibility
Through the years, digital content has become more prevalent in our lives. Banking and shopping are now commonly done online, connecting with friends and family is done through social media or messaging platforms, and newspapers and magazines have moved away from printed form and focus more on digital content. With this shift from physical to digital, it is essential that digital content be accessible for those with disabilities.
What does digital accessibility mean for those who are blind or vision impaired? Digital accessibility would include:
· websites navigable by keyboard
· alternative text image descriptions
· easy-to-read high-contrast font
· audio descriptions or captioning for videos · interactive buttons, headers, and drop-down menus compatible with screen reading software
Accessible Printed Materials
Though most of our daily reading and activities may be done digitally, there is still a need for accessing printed materials. For those with low vision or a vision impairment, accessing printed text may be difficult or impossible. Assistive technology devices make printed materials accessible through magnification or text-to-speech (OCR).
Join us for our May Training Events
We are holding training events in May to help you integrate accessibility into your organization, find the right assistive solution for you, or get the most out of your screen reading software.
